Setting: A living room cluttered with items. A calendar on the wall, visibly outdated.
Characters:
Alex: Mid-40s, frantic and forgetful.
Blair: Early 50s, calm but equally forgetful.
Casey: Late 30s, an energetic and scatter-brained individual.
Scene 1: “A Forgotten Anniversary”
(Lights up. Alex is seated on the couch, deeply engrossed in a book. Blair enters from stage left with a grocery bag, looking puzzled. Casey is offstage.)
Blair: (Squinting at a shopping list) I think I got everything... but I feel like I’m forgetting something important.
Alex: (Without looking up) Oh, you always say that.
(Casey bursts in from stage right, holding balloons.)
Casey: Surprise! Happy Anniversary, you two!
(Alex and Blair look at each other with wide eyes, then back at Casey, confused.)
Alex & Blair: (In unison) Anniversary?
Casey: (Laughs) Yes! Your wedding anniversary! Don’t tell me you both forgot!
Alex: (Nervously laughs) Of course not... I was just about to surprise Blair with... (looks around, grabs a random item) this... lovely... (squints) can opener.
Blair: (Forcing a smile) Oh, just what I always wanted.
(They all laugh awkwardly.)
Casey: Well, since you forgot, I planned a little celebration for you!
(Casey hands each of them a balloon. They accept it, still confused but smiling.)
Alex: Wait, when did we get married?
Blair: (Thinking hard) I’m not entirely sure... Casey, when is our anniversary?
Casey: (Pauses) Well... I don’t exactly remember the date, but I got a notification on my phone today, so it must be today!
(Casey shows phone screen with a calendar notification titled “ANNIVERSARY!!!”. The date is not visible.)
Alex: (Looking closer) Is that notification from last year?
Casey: (Squinting at the phone) Maybe... But hey, why not celebrate anyway?
Blair: (Laughs) I agree. With our collective memory, every day could be our anniversary!
(They all laugh together. Lights fade out as they continue laughing and talking, celebrating their “anniversary.”)
